Beginning windsurfers spend a lot of time lifting the sail back out of the water, but once mastered there's nothing as exciting as being one with the wind as you traverse the bays and lakes of the region. The more adventurous venture far out into the ocean and the extremists find their home climbing the breaking waves near shore.

Lessons are a good idea and are available in the Atlantic City area through Extreme Windsurfing and on Long Beach Island by Island Surf & Sail. A number of small groups sail in locations throughout the shore and on the lakes as well; this would be an ideal way to pick up some pointers.

Safety Tip: Wear a life preserver, you'll be in the water more than not in the beginning.
