Princeton to Westfield
|
| Princeton
|
 |
|
As
with New Brunswick, the diverse mix of students at Princeton University and employees at the large
companies in the region makes for an interesting variety of shops,
restaurants and galleries in town. The
life-sized bronze sculpture pictured, "Out to Lunch" by J.
Seward Johnson, Jr., is located at Palmer Square and is one of a number of
similar pieces in town. |
 |
| Red Bank
|
 |
| With the many
financial institutions that have moved into the area over the last decade,
Red Bank has been gaining a reputation as the Wall Street of Monmouth
County. Broad Street is the main shopping area, but you won't want to
overlook Monmouth and the other side streets either. North of Broad, is
Marine Park which is great spot to bring a sandwich and look out over the
river. Similar views are available from the Molly Pitcher a few blocks to
the west. Be sure to drive out through Fair Haven to the east, where
you'll find many more small shops. |
| Somerville |
 |
| The primary shopping
area extends along Main Street from Union to Grove Street, where smaller
eateries are clustered around the courthouse area. There are a variety of
shops in town; also in the area are strip malls near the Somerville Circle
and the Bridgewater Commons Mall north of Route 22. |
| Summit |
 |
| Of a trio of towns
along Springfield Avenue in Union County, Summit is the only one with a
clearly defined downtown. The other two, New Providence and Berkeley
Heights, while nice towns in their own right, are more of a suburban
sprawl. So Summit is the big town that draws visitors in the area, you'll
find a variety of shops and galleries there and restaurants of every
flavor spread among all three towns if you choose to take the scenic route
in getting there. |
| Westfield |
 |
| Very similar to Summit
in size, Westfield is a popular destination drawing from the surrounding
communities as well. It's always interesting to navigate the Westfield
Circle located between the north shopping district and south residential
area - the rules seem to change quite often. |
