Each February 2nd the world (or at least some
parts of North America) wakes up and anxiously tunes in to see what Punxsutawney
Phil or Staten Island Chuck will have to say about our weather for the next six
weeks.
Some
time ago, New Jersey was experimenting with a crab or lobster shadow prediction
system, but the Punxsutawney Elders got wind of it and sent over some hedgehogs with a pot of
boiling water to steam that idea. Staten Island Chuck
was placed under immediate protective guard after that incident and Phil
remains the main "man" in the shadow watching business to this day.
Early in the morning on February 2, 2005,
Punxsutawney Phil called for 6 more weeks of
winter, but Staten Island Chuck prognosticated that it'll be an early
spring.
Note: When we
first started this sampler of events a number of years ago, the local
newspapers were not yet "Internet" aware. Since then, they've stepped up
to the plate and are now listing more events than we could possibly hope
to keep up with.
Please explore those same newspapers and other
aggregators by County,
Local, or
Regional links for a wealth of things to
do in New Jersey in February.
