Our area is rich with destinations of
historical significance that are of interest to all. Everyone knows what the Liberty

Changing directions, but continuing on the historical theme, there were many
strategic military encampments right here in NJ during the revolutionary war.
Over two hundred years ago at Jockey
Hollow the soldiers braved one of the worst winters on record. Walking among
the rudimentary huts they called home makes one wonder how they ever did it.
Enough
history? The ski resorts of the tri-state area have entered the year-round
entertainment business with many offering swimming, cart tracks down the
mountain, other rides, golf, nightlife, restaurants, and music. Only a couple of
hours away in the Pocono's, Camelback is
a popular destination and Hunter
Mountain in NY rounds out your skiing/entertainment choices. Oh, and don't
forget NASCAR racing!
If you have kids, they'll put up with the history for a bit, complain that
there just aren't enough rides at the ski resorts, and bug you for junk food. So,
we had better cover some spots that will keep them happy too! Sesame
Place just north of Philadelphia could be added to the itinerary for the
historical day trip, although that may be too much for one day. The granddaddy
of amusement destinations,
Great Adventure, is only a few minutes from the shore and all the fun activities will keep you busy all day long.

Last but
not least, the American Museum of Natural History in NYC combines a couple of
perennial favorites with kids:
dinosaurs
and stars. In February 2000, the Hayden
Planetarium re-opened with state-of-the-art equipment making those stars and
planets more real than ever. Some of the above and more:
