elmar
(French for beautiful sea) has long been a popular tourist destination
where a permanent population of less than 10,000 successfully host
over 50,000 more during the summer season.
The
majority come to enjoy the wide beaches
that stretch for a mile from the Shark River in the north to the southern border
with Spring Lake, or to stroll along the boardwalk
that reaches almost as far. A collection of old postcards
reveal more of the charm that embodies the Belmar beachfront, but boardwalks and beaches
define the Jersey shore, there must be more to it than that...

Many visitors never set foot on the beach, opting for a day of sport fishing
on one of the many charter boats anchored at the marina
instead. Here too, and at other locations around town, the more independent
minded can rent a boat, kayak, Jet-Ski, or even bicycles and roller blades for
the landlubbers.

Whether you choose from the above for your daily activities, or elect to
browse through the many shops in town, as evening approaches everyone enjoys a
nice sunset. The photographer's among you are sure to catch some good
shots like
this Sunset at
Belmar Marina taken by Joyce Ciallella, a previous winner of the Online
Photo Contest. Yes, she's from Belmar, but visitors have won different prize
levels in the past as well. Go ahead and shoot a roll on your next visit, you just may
be next year's winner.
Belmar's location relative to other beaches along the Jersey Shore is shown on our north to south geographic
listing. Visitors using the Garden State Parkway from the north or south of
Belmar would take Exit 98 and follow the signs for Rt. 38 East. Visitors from
the west using Route 195 will find themselves in Belmar when the highway ends.
Enjoy your stay!
