he
Prisoner is a strange and unusual series even by today's standards. That it made
it on the air in the 1960s at all was most unlikely, but certainly appreciated
by the loyal fans.
When the series premiered, the theme was quite unexpected,
after all it starred the Secret Agent Man (Patrick McGoohan) and
certainly didn't resemble that previous series at all. Once over that initial
disorientation though, the show was quite entertaining with a lot of twists and
curves in the plot - fun and thought-provoking as well. It was at once idyllic,
with a setting in a pleasant looking village, and frightening as the character
realized escape attempts were futile.
The
Prisoner ran on a weekly basis for 17 hour-long episodes. If you estimate about
46 minutes to the hour after commercials, that's a total of 782 minutes - the
complete set below adds up to 884 minutes, or about 100 minutes of extra footage
with rare scenes, alternate plot-lines, and interviews. If you loved the series,
that extra footage alone makes this a must have set! If this is all new to you,
you'll have an extra step-up on those of us that watched the original. Yes, even
35 years after the fact, this is must see television.
